Classic cars
It is a well known fact that our life today is deeply influenced by science. But, whatever be the extent of scientific approach of mans life, ones sentimental values always constitute a major percentage while taking any big decision regarding buying or selling valuable things. A few things that prove to be valuable to a high percentage sentimentally are generally those that are hereditary. One such classic example is the car that has been put to use for a very long time in ones life. Far more better is the one that was used by fore ancestors and has been passed on to the present generations.
Accidentally in our day to day life, we often use the word Classic or vintage carelessly to describe a car that is quiet old. But when deeply investigated, exact meaning is leads to deep differences in opinions. For any vintage car club that is near your home, the meaning of the word may mean any category of car that is old and in good running condition. Though the age doesnt matter, any old car in fine condition is accepted as classic. But on the other extreme certain car lovers such as the Classic Car Club of America, think only a countable number "Classic Era Motor Cars" exist in a witness able condition. A few others consider cars nothing less than a 1948 make.
Generally a car becomes Classic when it crosses the age of 25 years, as it is really rare for a car to sustain its breath for so long, and still be used by its loyal owner, without paying any attention to what the passerby murmur! With such a long time, the car would have exceeded its design life and be taken over by other modern designs. The regular maintenance cost will be boring a hole bigger and better than ever in the owners pocket and even the spares wont be easily viable at the shop next door. So, obviously a non-enthusiast will simply come to the conclusion that it is mature to upgrade to better versions available in the market for regular driving.
But this doesnt mean that everyone carry on the same process of upgrading and kill their old car in the junk yard, but there are those enthusiasts too, who might drive such an old vehicle daily, and be patient enough to take that great difficulty of bearing the cost of restoring the vehicle to a trustworthy running condition.
Certain countries and their governances have identified the merit of having old cars in their land and have also taken the initiative to allot special registration numbers to such classic cars. for example, the rules of the governance in Pennsylvania says a car can be considered antique and allotted a special number when, A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured at least 15 years prior to the current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformity with manufacturer specifications and appearance.". certain countries like the UK have wish to boast of the number of old cars that they possess and hence have taken steps even to waive off the taxes on classic cars! As per the laws, all cars first registered before 1 January 1973 are free from paying the annual vehicle excise duty.
A few enthusiasts consider such collectables be a form of investment also. At times, such antique cars are bought primarily keeping the profit in mind obtained by a future sale, rather than enjoying the drive in such a rattling car, or enjoy restoring it. As like any other form of slob money, antique car collecting is yet another form of gambling! The market for antique cars is deeply based on the condition and the age of the car, rather than the make or owner. The early 80s saw a steep rise in the price of such cars in the global market; however the market declined in the 90s, as people were more attracted towards modern cars.
Certain collectors collect cars just to enjoy the joy of collecting. When you plan to invest that little excess of your monthly earning in buying an antique car, a car in good condition with original paint in good running condition would be wise. Any car with a tag less than 500 bucks in US is considered a good deal if it is at least 20 years old, and also includes no broken glass and low mileage. These cars often demand more attention than your wife and should be started up at least once every 3 weeks. With all this all you need is patience to wait for no less than 20 more years till these cars worth more than $10,000, if trends continue for the years to come. However, under all care and custody of your garage many of these cars just cant wait to relieve their breath and settle silently in their graves at a corner in the junk yard. So, it is better to be cautious while investing in this segment.
As with all collectible antiques, the price of your antique car is fixed mainly on the basis of its age, and very little importance is given to its demand. But if your car is one among those that are most adorned on the streets, then it may fetch you multiple folds than what you expected to get from it. This translates that highly desired cars are the ones that are highly expensive, and those that are not too fashionable may be very cheap. Along with this aspect goes other add-ons like the condition, and the maintenance of the car.
The idea of owning a classic car, restoring it, and maintaining it for a very long time in mint condition, just to get more than what it deserves involves a lot of speculation about the futuristic tastes. Almost all cars go through a period of transition where they are insulted of begin old and immature, on the basis of their age just before they become valuable. Then, the car bought once upon a time during your grannys days might drastically increase in value and get you what you couldnt even think about. But a car is quiet a big thing that is expensive to store and maintain, and hence drills a pot hole into the profits obtained after you sell your possessions!
