The passage of the apparent centre of an object's disk through a meridian. The meridian is usually the observer's meridian, and the meridian transit is almost coincident with the time when the object reaches its highest point in the sky. Sometimes, just the word "transit" is used to indicate a meridian transit, and this is not to be confused with the transit of one body in front of another. |
