Mythology of the constellation Scutum

SCUTUM is another constellation named by Johannes Hevelius, this one in 1690. He originally called it "Sobieski's Shield" in honour of King Jan Sobieski III, of Poland, a strong, brave monarch who had prevented the Turks from invading Vienna in 1683 as well as repelling many attacks on his homeland.
